Madison’s own Tea Party upcoming!

The Tea Party Movement will finally arrive in Madison this coming Saturday, April 17.

Local people and some visitors concerned about a number of trends in the U.S. today will hold a Tea Party rally at 3 p.m. on the spacious lawn just south of the Riverboat Inn, 906 E. First St., near the Madison-Milton bridge. Organizers are urging all those interested in supporting the Tea Party movement to attend.

Foobar, the well-known poster on Old Madison who also maintains this website plus a number of others (he’s a computer guru par excellence!) posted a notice on the left-hand column of the Old Corporal home page Monday, notifying readers of the upcoming rally. But since the “Comments” section may not get the attention that new posted columns do, Old Corporal decided to echo Foobar’s information where it would hopefully get more readership.

Among the issues scheduled for discussion by speakers at the Tea Party are: Obamacare; Illegal immigration; Education reform; and Public corruption.

Foobar advises us that those attending are encouraged to bring campaign signs voicing their views — but no profanity or other foul language will be tolerated by the organizers.

Scheduled to speak at the event are: Mike Sodrel; Rick Berry; Jan Anderson; Joe Boone; Dr. Britt; Dr. Israel; Rick Reuss; and Travis Hankins.

Sodrel and Hankins are opponents for the Republican nomination for the 9th District congressional seat currently held by Democrat Baron Hill. Berry is a Madison city councilman and a Democrat. Britt and Israel are local physicians who presumably will address the issue of the recently passed U.S. health care legislation in regard to the way it will affect medical professionals across the country.

If Old Corporal might offer one piece of advice to the organizers: You’ve got one elected local Democrat scheduled to speak; try to find one more as well. The Tea Party Movement nationwide is bi-partisan in membership (as well as including a lot of independents) and the local organizers should try to avoid having their rally appear partisan.
